Monster Jam Kansas City Review

Disclosure: I received tickets to this event from Feld Entertainment for my family. I am not required to write a positive review and all opinions are 100% my own and honest.

I can honestly say that going to a monster truck show was never on radar before having kids. But after having Connor, I knew that I would need to learn all of the things that come along with having a boy who absolutely loves trucks, so attending Monster Jam last night was definitely an experience for me!

I really didn't know what to expect at the show although I had been warned that it is super loud. The kids were very excited when we arrived:

The first half of the show was mainly races in the monster trucks, ATVs, and speedsters. This gave us time to see each truck and we picked our favorites early on. Connor and Mike both favored Grave Digger while Grace and I both chose Monster Mutt Dalmatian to win. For a monster truck, Dalmatian is pretty cute!

The races moved pretty slow for both of my kids and they had a hard time sitting still for all of them. While the ATV and speedster races were fun for a bit, the kids just really wanted to see the trucks.

I was surprised my how much audience interaction there was throughout the show and our whole family enjoyed cheering on the Zombie truck with our zombie arms!

Towards the end of the races Connor started to complain that it was too loud for him. We brought ear plugs for the entire family but next year I will definitely be buying the headphone ear protection that I think works better for little ears. Mike and Connor spent the end of the first half like this:

Amazingly enough, due to fighting a cold and not getting a nap that day, Connor began to fall asleep and slept on me through the ENTIRE second half. I felt bad for him because he was so excited to see the trucks but the poor guy was obviously exhausted. I couldn't believe he slept through all that noise!

I wish he would have stayed awake because the second half was action packed! The trucks competed in jump, wheelies and a freestyle competition that had the crowd cheering. It's hard to truly understand how massive these trucks are until you see them in person.

The trucks get some serious air in the jump competition and I thought it was the best part of the entire show.

The freestyle was Grace's favorite part because the trucks crushed cars! She has talked about them crushing cars all day today.

Each event was scored and Grace and I were thrilled when the female driver of Scooby Doo was the overall winner for the night.
The commentators worked hard to make the night a family friendly event by constantly involving audience members and giving out prizes.  After the show the drivers were available for autographs and pictures but by the time we left the line was huge so we promised the kids we would do it next year. Overall we really enjoyed the show. Both kids say they want to go back again and they have been racing Connor's monster truck toys around the house all day, so I'll call it a success. Monster Jam was an experience we will never forget!
