Easy Valentine's Day Craft for Kids: Doily Heart Painting

Valentine's Day is around the corner and the kids and I have been having fun decorating with easy crafts. Our windows are full of heart suncatchers and we have yarn heart pom pom monsters on the tables. Their dinosaur and puppy Valentines are ready for their friends but Grace asked to make a card for their grandmas yesterday and of course I couldn't say no to that. So sorry grandmas, you're seeing your cards before you get them! We pulled out some paint and a few things from my craft drawers and whipped up a cute Doily Heart Painting.
Valentine's Crafts for Preschoolers Heart Painting
This super easy craft is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers since it requires very little setup. I found these heart doilies at Hobby Lobby. You could use acrylic or watercolor paint for a different look but we used fingerpaint because it is super easy to get off of clothes, skin and other surfaces.

I attached a single doily to a piece of card stock using Scotch Removable Double Stick Tape. This made the doilies easy to remove after we were done painting and I highly recommend it for kids crafting! I gave the kids each a brush and some red paint and they had fun covering their whole papers in paint.

Grace covered every inch of her paper while Connor was a bit more hesitant. We sprinkled some glitter onto the paper while the paint was still wet to add a little sparkle but that is totally optional.

We let the paint dry a little bit before removing the doily. We discovered that Grace put a lot of paint on her doily which made it harder to remove and the lines weren't as distinct as Connor's. So encourage your kids to put just a thin layer of paint over the doily.

The finished products after I added the word love:

This would be a great craft for a classroom Valentine's party as it requires only a few supplies. It would also be a cute Valentine's gift for family members on a canvas. I love the way they turned out!
