Non-Candy Easter Basket Ideas with PBS Kids

Disclosure: I received DVDs from PBS Kids to facilitate this review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Easter is coming up soon and if your kids are anything like mine, the last thing they need is more candy! With family Easter events, they get sugared up enough and I try as hard as possible to avoid giving candy as gifts at home. So I thought I'd share some of my favorite candy alternatives for your little one's Easter basket featuring some of the coolest gifts from PBS Kids.

1. DVDs

Your kids will love watching their favorite characters over and over again. Here are some of our current favorites:

  • Big Brother Daniel: This is by far Grace's favorite DVD at the moment. She is obsessed with babies and loves watching Daniel help his parents and brand new baby sister. If you are expecting a new baby, this is the perfect way to introduce your preschooler to the idea of a new sibling.
  • Dinosaur Train: I Love Trains: Connor grabbed this DVD the moment we got it and has wanted to watch it non stop since. These episodes show off all of the Dinosaur Train fun while introducing a new train, the rocket train! I have to admit that I love this show because my kids are really starting to get into dinosaurs and this is an easy way for me to learn to pronounce all of the names correctly!
  • Peg+Cat: Peg Rocks: Peg+Cat is an awesome fun way to introduce your preschoolers to math. With exciting, catchy songs that I often get stuck in my head, Peg and cat use basic math concepts to solve their problems.
2. Books

As a former librarian, I love giving books to my kids despite the fact that we are running out bookshelf space! Some of my favorite options for my kids this year are:

3. Games

Grace and her friends adore playing board games and I love games that encourage her love of reading. Super Why is one of my favorite PBS Kids shows and this game is definitely on her wish list!
4. Stuffed Animals & Dolls

Every Easter basket needs a plush toy but why not get something different than a bunny this year? My kids absolutely adore their Curious George plush and I know it will be a fixture in their toy box for years.

5. Clothes

Grace would pick clothes as a gift over a toy any day. If you have a little fashionista, a new outfit might just be the perfect Easter basket accessory! Grace would go crazy for this outfit:

What other things do you put in your children's Easter baskets? I went a little overboard last year so I'm trying to cut back this year. Grace is getting a couple of puzzles and Connor is getting a few Thomas the Train engines for his train table.

Thanks to PBS Kids for all of the great DVDs!
