Curious George Inspired Hot Air Balloon Craft with Netflix Curious George Swings Into Spring

Disclosure: As part of the Netflix Stream Team, I received a welcome gift and a free monthly subscription. However, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Spring is here! My kids are so much happier when we can spend our time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Unfortunately the spring weather leads to rain and bored days stuck inside. Netflix is my sanity saver on those days and one of the few shows my kids can agree on right now is Curious George. One of their favorites is the movie Curious George: Swings Into Spring.

George is trying to share the wonders of springtime with his best friend, Hundley. But when Hundley loses his way in the countryside, George takes to the skies in a wild adventure on a hot air balloon to find his pal!

The next best thing to being outside ourselves is watching George's hilarious antics while he celebrates the arrival of spring. Grace has been fascinated by the hot air balloons that are the focus of the last half of the movie so I decided to create a craft for her featuring hot air balloons.

This simple craft goes together fast and is perfect for little ones! You will need a balloon, a hole punch (forgot to include it in the photo), a small paper or plastic cup, ribbon, scissors, and packing tape.

Punch 4 holes in the top of the cup evenly spaced out.

Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to go around the balloon. Tie each end of the ribbon to holes opposite each other.

Cut another piece of ribbon exactly the same size and tie each end to the 2 holes that are left. Make sure that the pieces are fairly even so that your "basket" (cup) is level.

Slip the balloon inside the ribbons and cross them at the top. Place a piece of packing tape at the top to hold the ribbon in place.

I also added a piece of packing tape over the ribbons on the base of balloon to help it fall evenly and not get tangled.
Grace has had a great time giving her toys hot air balloon rides. We made another one for Connor and they love racing their hot air balloons to see which one will fall the fastest. She has been asking to go in real hot air balloon like Curious George but she will probably have to wait a while for that one!

What shows have you been watching on Netflix this month? I started watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and couldn't stop watching! It's super funny, original, and addicting. Kimmy manages to reinvent herself from a "mole woman" to an amazing strong woman. Despite her quirkiness, she is a truly inspirational character. For those looking to reinvent themselves like Kimmy did, check out these great titles from Netflix:
