Peg + Cat: Pirates Ahoy! and Other REALLY Big Problems Review

Disclosure: I received this DVD from PBS Kids to facilitate this review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Grace loves using the iPad to watch the PBS Kids app and her new favorite discovery is Peg + Cat. If you aren't familiar with the show, Peg + Cat features an adorable girl and her cat who constantly find themselves in an adventure where they must use math to solve their problems. It's aimed at kids from 3-5 years old and based on that description, I was honestly surprised that Grace loves it so much. A show based on math for preschoolers? But as we watched the new DVD "Peg + Cat: Pirates Ahoy! and Other REALLY Big Problems" I learned why it so popular.

This DVD features 7 episodes that run about 10 minutes long. This is about the perfect length for her attention span right now. Peg and Cat's stories highlight simple math problems and break them down to make it easy for a preschooler to understand. We've been working on counting a lot lately, so "The Sleepover Problem" episode has been helping reinforce how to count to 20. Grace particularly loves pirates right now, so all of the pirate episodes were huge hits with her. Her favorite episode is definitely "The Pirate Puzzle Problem" because she gets to "help" the characters find pieces to the puzzle.

With fun characters and bright colors, my kids both absolutely love Peg + Cat. Not only are they learning the basics of math, I appreciate that the stories focus on the values such as sharing and teamwork. This DVD also includes five printable activities that would be perfect for an afternoon stuck inside due to the cold:  the pirates’ fruit salad recipe, pirates + peaches board game, four fantastic flip-books, Cat sock-beanie instructions, and PEG + CAT stick puppets.

"Peg + Cat: Pirates Ahoy! and Other REALLY Big Problems" is available to purchase now at ShopPBS and will ship starting 12/23.

Thanks PBS Kids for this great DVD!
