Holiday Gift Guide: Unique Gifts from Hammercher Schlemmer

Disclosure: I received this product from Hammercher Schlemmer in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are 100% my own and honest.

I love finding gifts for my family and friends that are truly unique. It's so fun to see their faces when they get something unexpected, yet perfect for them. This year, I was able to find the most amazing and unique gift for Grace and Connor from Hammercher Schlemmer. You should have seen the look on Grace's face when the Instant Geodesic Dome arrived at our door. She was so excited and kept saying "it's for me? Oh thank you mom! I love it!" She wouldn't even let me take a picture of the box without her hugging it.

When Hammercher Schlemmer offered to send me a product from their website, I was honestly overwhelmed by their impressive catalog. They pride themselves with offering the best, the only, and the unexpected since 1848. The history buff in me is amazed by these facts:

During the 1930s and 40s, the name Hammacher Schlemmer would become synonymous with innovation. It was here that the world first encountered the pop-up toaster (1930), the electric razor (1934) and the steam iron (1948). Later, Hammacher Schlemmer would offer the first electric pencil sharpener, food processor, electric can opener and automatic coffee maker. Other notable introductions include the first microwave oven (1968), telephone answering machine (1968) and cordless telephone (1975). At their introduction, these products were viewed by many as intriguing gadgets, but the company saw them as functional problem solvers.

That's quite an impressive record! They offer products for every aspect of your life in all price ranges. I was immediately drawn to the Instant Geodesic Dome since both of my kids love to climb. I figured it would be a great way for them to burn off some of their energy. Made with PVC plastic, this dome won't get hot in the summer heat and is made to support up to 150 lbs. It won't rust, chip or peel and it is super easy to assemble. With clear letter labels on each piece, you simply snap the corresponding pieces together. If you happen to make a mistake (like I did), you use the included tool to unsnap the bars. We set it up in our basement so that the kids could enjoy it this winter.

Can you tell Grace was super excited about it? We set up a foam mat under it just in case we had anyone tumble off. We just happened to have some friends over the night we assembled it so we put it to the test right away with two 3 year olds and two 1 year olds.

It is the perfect size for kids ages 3 and up. The 1 year olds enjoyed crawling through it and around it while the older girls swung and climbed to their hearts content. They played with it all evening long. The kids beg to go downstairs to climb every day and I love that it's helping fight off some of the winter boredom. We even used it at Connor's birthday party. We had a ton of kids ages 1-11 playing on it and they all loved it. It is extremely sturdy and I can't wait to move it outside in the spring. The Instant Geodesic Dome retails for $199.95 but it is on sale now for $149.95 with limited quantities available.

  1. That looks like a lot of fun. We don't have the space for it in the house, but it is something to consider for this summer.
