Holiday Gift Guide: The VTech InnoTab MAX Tablet for Kids Giveaway!

Disclosure: I received a VTECH Innotab MAX to faciliate this review. All product information and the giveaway prize were also provided by VTech. All opinions are 100% my own and honest.

Children's tablets are always a hot holiday toy. To be honest, I've never given them much consideration since our kids were too young for them. But as Grace is approaching 4, I've been thinking she might enjoy having a tablet of her own. She loves playing games on our family tablet and my phone, but I worry about her getting into things that aren't kid friendly. Well VTech must have been reading my mind, because they offered to send me their new InnoTab MAX for her and she is loving it.

I set it up before she was able to see it and was impressed with the speed of the tablet. The InnoTab MAX is VTech’s 4th generation kids’ learning tablet and it features its fastest processor yet with up to six times the processing power of previous generations. The display is clear and bright. I greatly appreciate that it comes with a cover, no extra expense there!

During the setup process, parents can create up to 4 profiles for their children. I set one up for Grace and will set one up for Connor in the near future. This allows them to keep their photos and game progress separate (a must for siblings!)

The InnoTab MAX comes pre-loaded with Premium VTech® Kid Connect (more about this later), My Magic Beanstalk, Movie Maker, Art Studio, Wonder Cam Max, E-Reader with Story Dictionary and more.  When I registered it, we received one free Toca boca app and two additional free apps to download from the Learning Lodge. The Learning Lodge features a ton of educator-endorsed, age and stage appropriate titles and apps that can be downloaded immediately. With apps for science, social studies, reading, and math, you are sure to find something that will help your child learn while having fun. The Learning Lodge suggested apps based on Grace's age so that I could quickly find apps that would be perfect for her developmental stages. I chose an ABC game and a Animal Vet game as our free apps. The tablet uses Wi-Fi which makes it quick and easy to download the apps.

I gave Grace the tablet and she immediately wanted to play the Vet game. She loves animals and getting the chance to learn to help them was super exciting for her.

The instructions were very easy to follow for her and the levels were short, perfect for her attention span. She had no problem with the touch screen but didn't have much desire to use the included stylus (we'll try it again when she's older!)
She is going to be thrilled when she finds out there are Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Sofia the First games that we can buy. As she gets older, there will be more features that will be fun to explore. The InnoTab MAX features an app called Premium VTech Kid Connect that allows children and parents to exchange voice and text messages, photos, drawings and fun stickers in real time between the tablet and a smartphone. How cool is that?

With the built in wi-fi, kids can even access a web browser that lets them view appropriate VTech selected websites, games, and videos. Parents can also add approved sites. I love that it gives her some freedom to explore while keeping her safe. Grace had a ball watching some of the videos and I thought the selection offered was great.

As a parent, the most important thing to me about the InnoTab MAX is the parental controls. I can manage the apps, view a progress log, and even set her web access time and total tablet time. Giving them a set amount of time each day or week to play is a great way to limit their screen time and teach time management as they get older! I know many parents worry about their kids having too much screen time, and I worry about it too, but I know playing games like the ones offered on the InnoTab MAX can really help her developmentally. VTech's platform learning expert panelist, Dr. Eric Klopfer,  provides an in-depth perspective of the InnoTab MAX in this video:

I love that he points out that games give kids the chance to learn problem solving while being in a safe environment to fail.

Grace had such a great time playing with the InnoTab MAX and I know she will be using it for years to come. It is sure to be a hit with the kids on your holiday shopping list!
