2k Fan Celebration! Day 5: Joosh's Juice Bar

Disclosure: I received a copy of Joosh's Juice Bar to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own and honest.

In early June, I reached 2,000 Facebook fans and I was so excited that I decided to celebrate by offering a series of giveaways for my wonderful readers. I originally planned to host 5 giveaways, but I had so many companies respond with amazing products that I am thrilled to announce that I will be hosting 12 days of giveaways!

I am humbled and extremely happy that so many people take time out of their day to read about our family. This blog started as a journal about our daily adventures and has grown into a means to help support my family, something I never imagined possible. Be sure to visit each day to learn about a new company. On the final day, be sure to check out a special giveaway prize provided by me as a thank you to all of you.

Thank you to each and every one of you for reading my posts and sharing your thoughts and opinions in the comments!

I'm lucky that my kids love books as much as I do. Any time I get a book in the mail to review, they get very excited. When Joosh's Juice Bar by Josh Gottsegen arrived, Grace wanted me to read it to her right away.
When Joosh’s Juice Bar runs out of strawberries, the youngsters are asked to go on a “strawberry run.”  Mo and Coco, along with rainforest friends Randy (a mischievous monkey) and Kwamee (a wise green lizard), travel through the Tropland Rainforest and stumble upon a unique glowing berry in Don Ribbit’s forbidden Swampland. Mo and Randy pick the berries, eat them and bring them back to Joosh’s Juice Bar. What seemed like a great idea at first turns sour as Joosh and his wife Holly return home to the juice bar and find the boys making a new juice with the berries! To their surprise, Randy and Mo, along with the animals that also drank their new blue juice, are glowing blue from head to toe! The Joosh Man takes Coco and the boys to seek aid from Doctor Boo Boo (a toucan bird). Will they find a way to wash the blue glow away? Will they get back home safely before dark and the impending rain storm?

While my kids are not quite old enough to get the obvious metaphor about the berries being chemical filled junk food, they do love the pictures. The illustrations are bright and fun. Being set in the rainforest, Mo and Coco interact with many different animals and Grace loves identifying all of them. She also enjoys the rhyming text. I will warn parents that this book is a little long for young one's attention spans. Connor likes the pictures but won't sit through an entire reading. My only criticism is that some of the placement of the words on the page can make it a little difficult to read.

This book is a great subtle way to teach kids to avoid chemical filled junk food and to stick with healthy fruits and vegetables. This will be a book I will read to them for many years to come.
