Painting a Little Tykes Playhouse

Several years ago, I purchased a Little Tykes playhouse on Craigslist for $30. It was in pretty good shape for being an older toy and Grace adored it! But the colors were faded and the pastel pink and green weren't exactly gender neutral like I wanted. So I searched around Pinterest for a solution and discovered that they make special spray paint for this exact purpose. Mike was game to try it so he set to work. We were thrilled with the result!

Painting a playhouse

I chose a basic white house with green and brown accents. Honestly, it was a bit more of a job than we expected. He took the entire thing apart and did it in shifts since we don't have a very big garage. He used Krylon Fusion for Plastic spray paint.

He did two coats on each piece and then sprayed each with a clear coat sealant. While the instructions said the paint was "Fast Dry," he ended up letting each piece dry for at least 24 hours. If he tried to put the pieces together any earlier, the paint easily chipped off. So it took several weeks for him to complete the entire process doing a few pieces a day.

He used a lot more paint than we expected doing all of the coats. Don't expect to be able to do this with one can of each color! I think it took at least 5 cans of the white to finish all of the sides.

He did an amazing job and I love how it turned out.

I'm hoping to convince him to paint the Cozy Coupe this spring! I think Connor needs a superhero car!
