How To Rock Consignment Sale Shopping: JBF Lees Summit Giveaway!

I've talked before about my love for consignment sales. Very rarely do I ever by clothes and toys for the kids new, why should I when I can get the same stuff in great condition for a fraction of the price? One of my favorite sales in the Kansas City Area is the Just Between Friends sale in Lees Summit.

I've gotten some AMAZING deals there in the past.

Little Tikes table & chairs- $8.50, retails around $50
Fisher Price Go Baby Go! Bounce & Spin Zebra- $8, retails for $60
Water Shoes- $3
Pink crocs- $2
Children's Place brown flower shoes- $2

Carter's Black Dress- New with tags (tags say $32!)- $3
Carter's Monkey Sleeper- $3
2 pair of Gymboree Jeans- $3
Silver Dress Shoes- New- $3.25

Old Navy Bumblebee Costume- $10

Winnie the Pooh costume- $5

These are just a few of the great deals I've found in the past. I've also consigned my items and volunteered and it's been a great experience!

Consignment sale shopping can be intimidating at first, especially at large sales such as JBF so I thought I would share some tips on how to find the best deals!

How To Rock Consignment Sale Shopping!

1. If you have the chance to go to a presale, go! JBF offers special presale times for volunteers, consignors, first time parents & grandparents, teachers, foster parents, military spouses, and moms of multiples. They also offer prime time shopping for only $10 on the presale day! You will get to shop before the general public at these presales and will get the first chance to find the great deals and avoid the lines!

2. Have a Plan. If you are looking for great deals on toys, go to them first. The best deals on big stuff such as large toys, furniture, strollers, and baby gear are often snapped up quickly so make a beeline for what you want. If you aren't sure where something is, ask! I often end up chatting with first time shoppers while waiting in line to get in to presales and gladly tell them where things are located,

3. Use the holds area or system. If you are heading for the big items, look around for volunteers. They will have stickers that allow you to claim an item without having to carry it around while you are shopping. Like I said before, these items go quickly so don't just think it will be there when you get done shopping, if you haven't claimed it, someone else probably will! The volunteer will give you the tag from the item so that you can pay for it and then get it to your vehicle. Most sales provide large bags for you to put your small items in, but for medium size items, take advantage of the holds area. You can drop your items off here and pick them up when you have finished browsing. You don't want to be lugging a race track or boppy around with you while you are trying to look through clothes!

4. Have a general knowledge of retail prices. Remember that consignors set their own prices. This is not a garage sale, you cannot barter for a lower price. You will often see the same items for completely different prices. Most of the time, I grab the item with the lowest price, but I have paid more for an item if it is in better condition. Just because something is at a sale does not mean it's a great deal. I have seen items priced close to their retail prices before. If you know what something costs new, you will have a pretty good idea of the great deals.

5. Take your time and don't bring kids! To take full advantage of the sales, you really need to take the time to look through the racks. So unless you have very patient compliant children I suggest leaving them with dad or grandma. I've taken Grace before and it never goes well. When I go by myself, I flip through the racks and end up finding some amazing things! At the last sale, I found a brand new with tags attached gorgeous Baby Gap Christmas dress for Grace. The tags said it retailed for $42, I got it for $8! I would never have found it had I been in a hurry.

6. Be patient and aware of your surroundings. Even during a presale, there will probably be a lot of other shoppers. Don't run over people. Watch for a second, normally people are all going in one direction when looking at clothes, so find a space and join them. Don't try to go the other direction and interrupt the flow of traffic. Sometimes the aisles get crowded, just be patient and people will let you through. If you see someone trying to get through, move and let them through! Be patient when waiting in line, the volunteers are trying hard to move the line and it normally moves pretty fast!

7. Go on the discount days! I normally make two trips to each sale. One for the presale to grab the items I can't live without including big stuff and new with tags clothes and then another trip on the 50% off day to stock up on clothes for the following season. There are always great deals to be found on 50% off day and I always walk away with tons of PJs and play clothes.

7. Last, but most important, have fun! Enjoy getting your great deals!
