Connor's first roadtrip

This past weekend, we made a very quick trip down to Wichita for an important event, my brother's wedding! In one day, I gained not only a new sister, but 2 nieces and 1 nephew. We are excited to welcome them into our family and I'm extremely jealous that my brother and sister-in-law are now in Florida soaking up the sun!

Before we left, we were really dreading the trip down there. It's only 3 hours, but with a 2 year old and a 3 month old, 3 hours can seem like an eternity! So we planned ahead and bought a holder for the iPad (more to come on that in a later post) so that Grace could watch her movies and brought along tons of snacks. I fed Connor right before we left, made sure he had a clean diaper and prayed that he would sleep. We planned to stop about half way through to feed him.

On the way down, the kids were perfect! We didn't get out of Kansas City until around 7 PM, so they were both tired. We set Grace up with some milk and The Muppets on the iPad and she was content the entire trip. Connor fell asleep as soon as we got on the highway and slept the entire way. We didn't stop and made it to my parents house by 10!

It was a late night because Grace was so excited to see her Grandma, Papa and cousins. She got some play time in before crashing and then Connor decided he didn't feel like sleeping at all overnight. Plus, Doc our dog got very sick so I didn't get to sleep much. It was a long night for me, but we had a busy day ahead so I grabbed some caffeine and we all started getting ready for the wedding.

It was a small ceremony and we took the kids with us. I was nervous about how they would do but again they surprised me and were perfect little angels. Connor had a huge diaper blowout right before the ceremony started, but luckily I was prepared with extra clothes and we made it back to the chapel right before the ceremony began. He fell asleep a minute or two after we sat down and slept on my chest the entire time. Grace wouldn't let her Papa go and ended up walking down the aisle with him and my mom. She sat happily in his lap the entire ceremony. I thought she would get bored but she seemed to enjoy watching it. I think she's starting to become as fascinated with weddings as I am, she loves watching Say Yes to the Dress with me! Mandi, Michael's new wife, looked gorgeous and all the kids looked adorable. They are going to be busy with 5 kids!

My brother's new family.

After the wedding we went and had a nice dinner and went home and crashed. Well, everyone else did. Yet again, Connor decided he didn't want to sleep. So the next morning we rested for a while before heading to my brother's house for their open house reception.

I was excited because my best friend Courtney and her husband stopped by so that my parents could meet her new baby, Jarett. He was born in early December and I had only gotten to meet him myself for the first time a few days before. They live in Illionois so I don't get to see them much.

Connor looks MASSIVE next to Jarett. I know he's a month older, but he's a chunk!

Love this picture, so much cuteness. They enjoyed playing on the mat together.
Sadly, we had to pack up and leave during the reception. We were all exhausted so I expected the kids to sleep the entire trip. Grace watched movies the entire trip back, I believe she watched Up and Rio and Connor was awake for about half of the trip. He fussed about halfway through until we stopped and I fed him and then he was happy the rest of the way. He did much better than Grace did on her first trip down to Wichita, she screamed for an hour and a half straight on our way back to Kansas City in April of 2011 at about the same age as Connor.

We had a good trip but we were all tired when we got home. I don't know how people do big trips with 2 young kids!

  1. We're going on our first 6 hour (one way) car ride today with a 5 year old, 2 year old, and 4 month old. Should be interesting!
