Connor: 2 Months Old (Over a week late!)

Dear Connor,

You are 2 months old!! Time is flying by so fast my boy.

You are absolutely a delight. Mommy keeps thinking she's going to jinx herself by saying this, but you really are an easy baby. You only cry when you're really tired or are hungry. As soon as we remedy the situation, you are back to your normal happy self. You love to talk and laugh and mommy and daddy spend a ton of our time talking to you instead of getting work done! I have never seen such an interactive baby. You wait for me to finish talking and then you will "talk" and we will go back and forth. The other night you and daddy had a game going where you would start talking softly and each get progressively louder. You could only do it a few times before cracking up and starting over again. Your smile and laugh light up the room! Overall, you're a happy, easy going baby.

video

  • You are around 12 lbs. You're pretty much a chunk! You love to eat so that's not really surprising. You are quickly outgrowing your 3 month clothes and I am sad to say that it's about time to move up to 3-6 months. We are finishing up a box of size 1 diapers and then will be moving up to 2s.
  • You are a great sleeper. Most nights you sleep from 10:30 PM to about 5-5:30 AM. Mommy loves this. Please keep sleeping so well! You take small catnaps during the morning and then give me one long nap in the afternoon, it averages about 3 hours.
  • You love your big sister. You watch her play and try to talk to her in the car. She loves giving you her toys. She hasn't quite learned that if she puts them too close to your mouth, this happens:
  • You want to move. You spend tummy time trying to get your knees under you and you manage to almost get on your side. I think you're going to be rolling any time now.
  • You still love cuddling. Your favorite place to be is curled up on mommy's chest. You're getting a bit better about being down, but we're still working on it.

  • Your favorite toy is your Lamaze moose. You laugh anytime you see him and focus on him for a long time.
  • You have officially moved to sleeping in your bassinet and are doing great. You are on medicine for reflux and it has made a huge difference. You are able to sleep on your back with no problems and you don't spit up nearly as often.
  • Everyone always thinks you are older than you are. We think it's the hair. You've lost a little bit of it, but not much. It's just as dark as it was the day you were born. Your eyes are a very dark steel blue. You still look so much like your daddy. Your personality reminds me so much of his. I see a few facial expressions that look like Grace's, but overall, you two don't look alike.
Daddy is so proud of your player 1 and player 2 shirts

  • You love motion. The car, walking around the house, the swing, it doesn't matter as long as you're moving. It's the quickest way to put you to sleep. If you're crying, we can bounce you and walk around and you're out within a minute or two. You don't like city driving in the car because we have to stop too often, but you love the highway and always fall asleep. You made  your first trip to the grocery store this month, which you loved because I wore you in the carrier.
  •  We celebrated your first Christmas this year and your favorite gifts were your moose and your My Pal Scout. You looked so handsome in your Christmas sweater.

We love you! We can't wait to see how you change and grow over the next few months.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Woolzies Dryer Balls Review and Giveaway

It's amazing to me how much more laundry I do now with two kids. I felt like I was constantly waiting for the dryer to finish so that I could put in another load. Plus, we were spending way too much money on fabric softener and dryer sheets! Recently, I received a set of Woolzies Dryer Balls to try and I was excited to see if they lived up to all of the hype I've read.

Woolzies Dryer Balls are made of pure handmade New Zealand wool that will soften your laundry and cut down on drying time by 20-40%. Because they are completely free of any chemicals, they are hypo-allergenic and safe for people with wool sensitivities. Best of all, they last for over 1,000 loads! They also help reduce wrinkles and keep your clothes static free.

I was honestly surprised by how well these dryer balls worked.  Our normal drying cycle is about 45 minutes, however, with the dryer balls, I found that our clothes get completely dry within about 30 minutes! Plus, they came out soft and mostly wrinkle free. I haven't noticed any static in my clothes since we've started using the balls. I love that they are are eco-friendly and I have no worries about using them with Connor's clothes. I've read great reviews about using them with cloth diapers and I plan to use them with our fluff when I start using it again here in a couple of weeks. One set of 6 balls can be purchased for 35.99 and are guaranteed to last for 1,000 loads or your money back. That's only about 3.5 cents per load. The cheapest I have ever seen dryer sheets is 5 cents a load. You all know how much I love saving money, so between the savings on dryer sheets, fabric softener, time, and energy costs, the dryer balls are a great deal!

Woolzies has generous offered one of my readers one set of Woolzies Dryer Balls!

Connor's Birth Announcement: Tiny Prints Giveaway

I finally got around to ordering Connor's birth announcements! It took a while to get his newborn photos back, so with the timing of everything, I decided it would be best to combine our Christmas cards and his announcements. I was excited to see how many great birth announcement choices that Tiny Prints offers. I found this Written News card in their winter announcements section and I love it. My family loves seeing pictures of the kids and this card provides space for lots of pictures.

It was really easy to upload my images and it only took a few minutes from start to finish to order the announcements. I was able to change the font text and size and switch out images until the card was perfect. The quality of the cards is great and even with the holidays quickly approaching, shipping was really fast. I am excited for my family and friends to receive them.

Giveaway

Are you expecting soon or do you know someone who is? Tiny Prints has generously offered one of my readers a $65 credit towards birth announcements + free standard shipping (expires 3/27/2013)

Overwhelmed

Honestly that's the only word I can think of to explain how I've been feeling lately, overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by Grace's frequent tantrums and the amount of stuff we have left to do before Christmas. I am having a hard time trying to give them both the attention that they want/need. Grace is going through an extreme jealous streak and freaks out the moment I try to do anything with Connor. It's exhausting. Our Christmas tree isn't even up yet and I just ordered the last of the Christmas presents last night. Blogging has gotten pushed to the side and I'm not happy about it. I have several giveaways that need to be posted, plus I have so many things that I want to share with you about both Grace and Connor. But for right now, I'm going to focus on "real life." There will probably be giveaways posted this week, but I'm not sure there's going to be much else. I really don't want to become one of those giveaway only blogs. I started this blog as a way to record our life with Grace and I want to continue it with real content. So I am going to stop doing so many giveaways in the new year and focus instead on real content. Please bear with me for the next couple of weeks and after the holidays, hopefully things will start getting back to normal. I hope your holiday season has been calmer than ours!

The American Girl Doll I Never Had....

Did you ever have a present that you really wanted as a child, but never got? I was extremely lucky to have what I did growing up, but there was always one big thing I wanted but never got, an American Girl Doll. Specifically, the Samantha doll.

I was obsessed with the American Girl books when I was young. I read them all as quickly as I could and made my mother buy me a new one anytime we went to the book store. I don't know how we started receiving the doll catalogs, but when they arrived, I would spend hours pouring over them, admiring each outfit and carefully marking which doll and accessories I wanted. My favorite girl was always Samantha. I couldn't even tell you why now as I don't remember much of the books, but I do remember that I loved her outfits the most! To my extreme disappointment, I never received my Samantha doll.

I know now that these dolls are extremely expensive and that's why I never got one, but I have to say that my desire for this doll never really went away. I learned recently that they retired my Samantha doll several years ago and that she is no longer available to purchase. Prices for her now on Ebay run extremely high. Can you tell I'm sad about this?

Our library system has the entire collection of American Girl dolls, accessories and tons of outfits that the branches can order in to display for a month at a time. When I worked at the library, one of my coworkers and I excitedly ordered the entire collection and I kid you not, spent an entire day dressing the dolls, doing their hair, and setting up their displays with the proper accessories. Neither one of us were able to afford a doll growing up and we were in heaven that day. I swear our coworkers thought we were crazy.

Several days ago, I saw that the American Girl Store was having a huge sale on a couple of their dolls. They NEVER have sales on their dolls. They don't need to. People are perfectly willing to pay full price for them. So I went to the website to check out the sale and found that the sale dolls were only $50! They are normally $124 so this was an amazing price and without much hesitation at all, I ordered one for me, I mean for Grace! We are now the proud owners of Marie-Grace. Seriously, with that name how could I resist?

Because obviously a 2 year old needs an American Girl doll, right? Yes, I am going to live vicariously through my daughter. I fully intend on holding it back until she is older and can appreciate it, if I can wait that long. I may never get my Samantha doll, but I will love watching Grace enjoy her Marie-Grace doll!
