Milestones

Grace is maturing like crazy lately!

I think we are finally done with the sucking on my finger thing. It has gone on way too long and I finally decided this past weekend that it needed to stop. I have been saying for months I haven't made her stop because it was going to be such a huge ordeal, but I guess I was wrong. For several days whenever she would try to put my finger in her mouth, I would simply say "you don't need my finger, you're a big girl" and pull it right back out. She would whine and cry for a minute and then move on to something else. I was most concerned about how she would do with going downs for naps and bedtime without it, but she just holds my hand now and falls asleep. I honestly think the transition was harder for me than it was for her. She doesn't "need" me the same way she did before. I know it's good and it needed to be done, but in a way, I will miss it. If you would have asked me two weeks ago, I would have said I would do anything to have her stop, but this is a major milestone for her. She's acting so much more like a little kid than a toddler now.

She is such an active child that her verbal development has been on the average side. She's not behind, but using her words was just never a big priority for her. We've been working on that a lot lately. When she starts throwing a tantrum we remind her to use her words and most of the time she tells us what she wants and stops crying. It's made life much calmer around our house and her vocabulary is really improving. Lately, she's obsessed with going "bye bye," basically leaving the house to go anywhere really. She's going stir crazy! Yesterday, we had what I consider our first real conversation. I was changing Connor's clothes in our bedroom when she walked in  and handed me her shoes.
Grace: Bye bye mama
Me: No, Connor and I are staying here.
Grace: No, bye bye. Mama Baby, bye bye. (She calls Connor "baby" so she was including him)
Me: Where are we going?
Grace: I don't know. Bye bye mama.
Then she shut the door. Just a simple conversation but it's the first time that I really felt we were using sentences to communicate back and forth. It's so fun watching her start to really express herself.

She's growing up so fast!
