Connor Michael's Birthday!

Connor Michael arrived via scheduled c-section yesterday morning, 10/29/12, at 10:13 AM! He weighed in at 8 lbs 6 oz and 19 and a quarter inches. He weighed one ounce more than Grace did when she was born. He was only 39 weeks 2 days, she was 41 weeks. I can't imagine how big he would have been had I tried to go naturally! The c-section went perfectly and my recovery has been extremely smooth. He is an extremely laid back, calm baby so far and he looks so much like his daddy. Our biggest shock has been his hair. He has a full head of dark, dark hair! We love him so much already! I'll post his birth story and more details soon. For now, I just wanted to share a few pictures with you.

Pregnancy Update: 39 weeks!

 BabyFetus Ticker

How far along? 38 weeks 5 days. Still pregnant and fully expecting to make it to my c-section date.

Weight gain/loss: As of my appointment yesterday, 29 lbs. That is 11 lbs less than I gained with Grace!

Feeling:  Sore, tired, excited, and nervous. My heartburn is bad and there just doesn't seem to be any comfortable way for him to lay now. He is constantly pushing his butt into my ribs. I'm excited to meet him but am extremely nervous for the actual surgery, recovery and adjustment period.

Maternity clothes? Yep!

Sleep: Honestly, not much. My brain just won't turn off and Grace has had a runny nose that is making it difficult for her to sleep.

Food cravings: I feel like I'm eating all the time, but haven't had any particular cravings.

Gender: Boy.
Movement?  More just rolls and pushes than kicks. He does like to kick Grace when she's laying on me.

What I miss? Sleep and being able to move without being in pain.

Best moment this week: Getting the nursery done!

What I'm looking forward to: Meeting Connor! This is officially my last pregnancy update!!

Next Appointment: My c-section is schedule for sometime in the next week :) Sorry, I won't share the date here but I will update when he arrives!

Mommy Guilt

Now that I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy, I have been overwhelmed lately with an extreme amount of mommy guilt over how much Grace's world is about to change. For close to 2 years, I have stayed at home with her and given her nearly all of my attention. She is a classic mommy's girl and is pretty clingy for a toddler her age. She still sucks on my finger for comfort, yes I know, that's bad but I have yet to figure out how to stop it. She is still horrible about napping and often ends up asleep on me. We still bring her to bed in the mornings with us. She's pretty attached!

And in a week or so, her life is going to be completely turned upside down. She's too young for me to really prepare her for it. I just keep telling myself that she won't remember any of this and in a few weeks it will be our new normal.

Moms of 2 or more, please reassure me that this feeling is totally normal. Things will be ok, right?

She will always be my first baby.

Connor's nursery reveal!

We finally finished Connor's nursery this past weekend! It had been a work in progress for several weeks and I was feeling so unprepared because it wasn't ready. I know he won't need it for several months but now that it's done, I feel like we are ready for his arrival!

When we were talking about themes and ideas for his nursery, we really wanted something he could grow into, so we chose dogs. It's not too trendy but we could still find cute things for it. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

We had to include Buddy and Doc of course, see the resemblance?

What a difference a year makes

A year ago at this very moment I was laying in a hospital bed in the ICU after going into heart failure during my gallbladder removal that day. I was dazed, exhausted, and in pain from having to cough all of the fluid out of my lungs. The next day I was diagnosed with Broken Heart Syndrome and for the rest of my life, I will be treated as a patient with a heart failure history.

But here's the weird thing: I often forget about that day. It still doesn't feel real to me and if you catch me off guard, I will still probably tell you that I'm completely healthy.  Because in my mind, I am. I read an article several months ago about another Broken Heart Syndrome patient and at the end of the article she said that she was a survivor. I don't feel like a survivor. I feel like a normal person. Is that weird? I'm not in denial or anything, I know it happened. But it didn't kill me. I have no long term effects from it and the likelihood of it ever happening again is miniscule. Okay, reading back over that, may be it is weird! But it's completely true.

Now a year later, I am sitting in our bed, relaxed, tired and extremely pregnant. Oh what a difference a year makes! My heart is completely healed and we should be meeting Connor any day now. Today, in celebration of a healthy year, I went and got a wonderful spa pedicure and then we worked on finishing Connor's nursery (I promise I will post pictures soon!)

Pretty toes. This does not happen very often so I had to document it :)
I can't wait to see what the next year brings!

Baby shower games!

A couple of weekends ago, I was lucky enough to help throw my best friend a baby shower to celebrate her baby boy! She is due on Christmas and I am so excited for them. They live about 6 hours away from us, so unfortunately I'm not going to be there to get to meet him, but I know they'll be amazing parents and it was so much fun to do her shower.

Being 3 hours away from the shower location and 34 weeks pregnant made it difficult for me to help out too much, but my big contributions to the event were doing the invitation and the games. I used several ideas from my showers that I loved for her shower and I think they worked really well so I wanted to share.

My favorite part of my shower in Wichita was a special request we made that instead of buying cards, people bring their favorite children's book with a message for baby written in the front. Personally, I don't save cards, they get read once and then thrown into a box or thrown away. But the books I received will be kept and read for years to come. I love opening Grace's books and reading the messages people wrote to her and it's such a great way to build baby's library. Since Courtney loves books as much as I do, I knew this was something we had to do for her shower as well. Her shower theme was penguins, so I included this little note in with each invitation instructing guests to please bring a book instead of a card. If you would like to download a copy of this image to use, you can find it here.

books poem

It was a huge hit and they got a great collection of books. Cards are so expensive these days that I would rather spend the same amount or just a few dollars more on a nice book that will actually get used!

I planned 4 games for the party and we had a great time!

The first was the traditional cut the yarn to the length that you think mommy's belly is. Courtney was a great sport about this game (I refused to play it at my shower) and luckily most of her guests were pretty close to right!

The second was another idea that I stole from one of my showers. Basically you give everyone a Ziploc bag and tell them to put any spare change they have in it. The person with the heaviest bag (judged by the guest of honor) wins. Also, bills will be given special weight consideration :) Then all of the money is put into a piggy bank to start baby's saving account. I had never heard of this game before my shower, but it amazed me how generous people were and the same happened with Courtney's shower. Everyone enjoyed it and baby boy now has a nice chunk of change to start out his life!

The third was the animal babies game. Basically you give everyone a list of animals and they have to answer with the name of the babies. Some versions of this game that I found online were way too easy, so I combined a few to make it a bit harder. Oh and make sure you give people a time limit, they will keep trying to guess forever! If you'd like to see my version, here's a link to the Animal Babies Game and the Answer Key.

Finally, we played Baby Shower Price is Right! I wish I had a picture of this because it was definitely the most fun game we did. Before the shower, I shopped at Walmart for a list of baby items and noted the price of each one and then my final total. At the shower, I gave people a list of the items and as I held up each one, they wrote down what they thought the price of the item was. Whoever came closest to the total amount of the items won. People were really surprised by the cost of some of the items, especially the baby socks, they're expensive!! All of the items from the game were then given to Courtney. Here is the document I made for the game, you can easily change your game to different baby items. You can download a better version of this image here.

We had a great time and I loved celebrating the new life about to enter the world. I never get sick of baby showers!

Did you have a baby shower? What was your favorite part?

Pregnancy Update: 37 weeks. Full term!

 BabyFetus Ticker

How far along? 37 weeks 4 days. Officially full term! I don't expect that we'll meet him before our c-section appointment in a couple of weeks, but it's nice to know that he would probably be ok if he decided to make his appearance sooner.

Weight gain/loss: Close to 25 lbs. Right where I wanted to be with this pregnancy. So much better than I did with Grace.

Feeling:  Doing a bit better this week than I was last week. I feel horribly unprepared for him mentally, but phsyically I'm very ready. My hips, back, pelvis still ache all of the time and my heartburn is horrible. But now that I'm getting closer to the end it's easier to handle for some reason. I see the light at the end of the tunnel I guess!

Maternity clothes? Yep!

Sleep: Would be a ton better without the nasty heartburn and reflux I've been having the past few day.

Food cravings: I haven't been hungry much lately.

Gender: Boy.
Movement?  Getting painful. He has most definitely run out of room and I feel like he's bruised me in a couple of places.

What I miss? Being able get in and out of bed or off of the couch without assistance and being able to get down and play with Grace on the floor.

Best moment this week: Seeing a healthy baby boy on our ultrasound and spending time with my parents while they were here.

What I'm looking forward to: Getting Connor's nursery completed this week.

Next Appointment: Tomorrow.

Family Photos

It had been a while since we have had family pictures done, so I decided to get them done recently. It was our last time taking photos as a family of 3 and I also wanted to get a few maternity shots done. I regret not having any good pictures of myself when I was pregnant with Grace. So, we met with Sara of Sara Elizabeth Photography at a local park early Saturday morning. It was a gorgeous day, but unfortunately, Grace was being extremely uncooperative. She had no desire to sit still or smile, but luckily Sara was patient and had a few tricks up her sleeve to get Grace to smile and we ended up getting some great shots! This is obviously a very photo heavy post, I had the hardest time narrowing down which ones to post!!
