I apologize in advance, but I have to get my Pixar nerdiness out of the way quickly. From the moment I started thinking about writing this post, this few seconds from Finding Nemo kept popping into my head!

Sorry for the randomness, and now to the real post.

We visited Wichita this past weekend for my best friend's baby shower and while we were there, Grace found a new obsession, bubbles. I bought some bubbles at the beginning of summer that didn't turn out to be very good. They didn't last long and just weren't great quality. So she wasn't very interested.

I didn't really think she would care when my nieces started playing bubbles this weekend. These bubbles were way better than the ones I had and Grace loved them. She quickly learned to say "bubble" and asked for the most of the weekend. She loves running around in them and trying to catch them. My parents sent us home with one of the bottles and we have been playing with them every night on the deck at her request. I took pictures and video tonight to capture the cuteness.

It's hard to capture her pure joy with just pictures, so I had to take a video. She runs around in circles giggling at the bubbles. If you listen closely, you can even hear her say bubble in the middle of the video!

She's going to be angry when it gets too cold to play outside. For now, we are all appreciating the gorgeous fall weather!

Pregnancy Update: 35 weeks

 BabyFetus Ticker

How far along? 34 weeks 5 days

Weight gain/loss: About 20 lbs. Still way under my number that I really didn't want to get to in this pregnancy, so I'm happy.

Feeling:  Sore. My pelvis constantly feels like it's going to shatter into a million pieces. It is extremely painful to get up from bed. Otherwise I'm doing well. My mood can change very quickly and I find myself getting emotional for no reason.

Maternity clothes? Yes.

Sleep:Better lately since I've been on my new heartburn medication. Prevacid is amazing. I still have to get up multiple times a night, but sleeping well when I'm actually in bed is nice.

Food cravings: Rice krispies and turkey sandwiches.

Gender: Boy.
Movement?  This boy already likes to freak me out. He has days where he is very active, and there are other days where I am doing everything possible to try to get a good kick count. Yesterday, I was about to call the OB after barely feeling him move all day when he gave me 10 good kicks and then went back to sleep. I prefer his active days!

What I miss? Sleeping through the night and being able to get in and out of bed comfortably.

Best moment this week: Hosting my best friend's baby shower (she's due on Christmas!) and our hospital tour on Tuesday night. Getting to see where he will be born certainly made it all feel more real!

What I'm looking forward to: Hopefully getting his nursery painted this week. And seeing the artwork I ordered for his nursery that should hopefully arrive within the next few days.

Next Appointment: This afternoon. Then I start my weekly appointments.

Sweet December Hats Giveaway!

We are less than 6 weeks from Connor's arrival and I am slowly starting to feel like I am ready. We have his newborn pictures booked, his closet is full of clothes, and we're starting to get the big gear out of storage for him.

I have to admit I'm a sucker for cute accessories and so when Bethany of Sweet December Hats offered a custom hat for him, I couldn't resist! Bethany is a fellow January 2011 mommy and she makes the most adorable hats you have ever seen both for girls and boys. Her headbands are gorgeous and I want them all for Grace (and may be even for myself!) I want all of the hats for Connor and I really am hoping that he is better about wearing them them Grace is. Bethany will fully customize your hat order for you with many colors to choose from. Here are some of my favorite things:

Bethany made Grace a beautiful hat last year and I'm really hoping it fits her again this year.

It took me forever to decide which hat to get for Connor. With his birthday being so close to Halloween and Thanksgiving, I ended up picking the pumpkin beanie. Bethany finished and shipped the hat within a few days and I was thrilled to see it. The quality is amazing and I know it will last.

I can't wait to see him in it! I will definitely be sharing pictures of him in it soon!

Bethany has generously offered to give one of my readers a $25 credit to Sweet December Hats!

Grace got her first tooth at 4 and a half months. And it seems like she's been teething ever since. I know, I know, that's probably an exaggeration, but teething causes my generally sweet child to turn into a grumpy, whiny girl who won't sleep, eat or follow any basic instructions. Her 2 year molars are now coming through and I can feel 3 out of the 4. I'm really hoping the 4th one is close to coming through as well so we can be done with all of the teething grumpiness. The only thing that seems to help at all is Tylenol or Motrin, but even that only helps for so long. I feel sorry for her, I know it has to hurt. She spends a lot of her days walking around with her fingers in her mouth.

She found this hat and wouldn't take it off
Nap times haven't improved at all since I last posted about them. In fact, most days you can find her napping like this...sucking on my finger the entire time.

I pray that we are almost done with teething. Of course, if Connor gets his as early as Grace did, we'll only have a few months of a break before his start coming in.

Did your child have a hard time when they were teething? I've heard of cases where it doesn't bother them at all.

Baby Shower!

This past weekend the lovely ladies at my church threw me a shower to celebrate Connor. I know some people think that second baby showers are taboo or "gift grabby" but we only recently joined our church and they always throw one shower per family. So since we didn't attend while I was pregnant with Grace, we got to celebrate Connor! I think inviting the same people to a second shower and expecting them to get you gifts is tacky, but since these were almost all new friends, I didn't feel so bad.

I wasn't sure how Grace would do with all of the people, she sometimes get shy around large groups. However, I knew that everyone would want to see her. So I got her all dressed up and off we went. Luckily Grandma was there to help because Grace was certainly in a mood. She was crying and being shy and I started to regret bringing her until she discovered that there were cupcakes. She played happily the rest of the shower snacking on cupcakes. Unfortunately, she has developed my sweet tooth. Her newest word? Cupcake. There are leftovers in my fridge and she constantly goes to the fridge door going "cupcake? cupcake?"

Once she was good and sugared up, she decided that she really liked the ribbon bows and thought they were nice hats.

She loved "helping" open the gifts and decided that most of them belonged to her. As soon as she saw something she liked, such as a gorgeous quilt or an adorable handmade stuffed dog, she grabbed it and put it in a pile next to grandma. She would then lay on the pile until she saw something else she liked. By the end, about half of the gifts were in her pile. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come!

We received so many amazing things for Connor and I'm excited to say that I think we're pretty much set with almost everything we need. We're obviously able to re use a lot of what we already had for Grace, but it's nice to see some blue things in his room now. His closet is full of clothes and he has plenty of comfy blankets waiting for him.

We're less than 6 weeks away from our c-section date. This pregnancy has flown by!

Did you have a shower for your 2nd child?

Pregnancy Update: 33 weeks

 BabyFetus Ticker

How far along? 33 weeks

Weight gain/loss: No clue actually. My OB forgot to take it and I didn't happen to remind her :)

Feeling:  Extremely frustrated. You might remember several weeks ago that one of my OBs decided to move my due date up a week due to Connor's size. Well, another OB decided that she didn't like the change and was going to change it back. So instead of being due October 29th, I am now due November 3rd again. She didn't really have a good reason, but she said that's what we were doing and scheduled my c-section with the hospital based on the November 3rd date. I hate having to see different OBs every time. It is not nice to to tell a pregnant woman that you're going to make her be pregnant for a week longer than she expected to be. Yes I know it's only a week and that I shouldn't rush him, but we had planned time off and travel plans for family based on the October 29th date. I'm trying to be optimistic and remember that it means we have a week longer than we expected to get everything ready and that if he wants to come early, he will!

Maternity clothes? Yes.

Sleep: Decent. I've been having some crazy dreams though.

Food cravings: Rice krispies and chocolate chip cookie dough.

Gender: Boy.

Movement? He's starting to run out of room so I'm getting a lot more nudges and rolls than full on kicks. But when he gets very active, it gets very painful. He and Grace seem to be working against me already, they have a game where she climbs on me and he pushes back hard on the exact same spot that she's pushing on.

What I miss? Being able to get off of the couch and out of bed easily.

Best moment this week: Seeing Connor on the growth ultrasound! We could see his hair!

What I'm looking forward to: My shower at church this afternoon.

Next Appointment: September 27th. I believe after that I'll be moving up to weekly appointments.

Nap Time Struggles

I never realized until I had Grace how hard of a job being a mom really is. It's the most amazing job ever, but often by the end of the day, I just feel like collapsing. Grace has always been what I call a "high maintenance" child. She has a temper, is extremely stubborn, and is smart enough to try to get away with many things. I have friends who have laid back children who generally follow instructions, sit nicely in their strollers or high chair, and simply go to sleep when they're put in the crib. Grace has never been that child. And I've learned to be okay with that. I know she will be a strong independent young lady some day and I will be happy that she has such a strong will. But right now, it's a struggle. Especially when it comes to nap time.

Grace has never been a good sleeper. I've posted before about how we finally had to let her cry it out at night because she refused to sleep in her crib. Over a year later, she still does great at night. We go through our bedtime routine, I put her in her crib and she goes to sleep within a few minutes. She might fuss for a minute or two but it never gets to a full on fit. She sleeps 10-12 hours no problem.

But when it comes to nap time, she acts like I'm torturing her. I go through the same routine that we do at night. As soon as I try to lay her down, she bounces right back up and starts screaming bloody murder. She will then scream for as long as I leave her there. The longest I've let it go is an hour. Now that she's talking she will add "Mama, Dada?" into her scream sessions.

Before you go thinking I'm a horrible parent, please know that I have tried all sorts of things. I have never been able to just rock her to sleep and put her down, the moment you move her an inch she is wide awake. I have tried giving her books to read and told her that if she didn't want to sleep she could just sit quietly and read books. She threw them out of the crib across the room. I've tried the Ferber method (going in and comforting her at certain intervals,) which just seems to make her even more angry. I've tried an earlier nap time, a later nap time, exhausting her in the mornings, nothing seems to work. I've thought about simply having her skip naps all together, but every single day the moment I go get her out of the crib after the screaming marathon, she crawls right onto my lap on the couch and falls straight to sleep. She will then sleep for over an hour. Trust me, I've tried moving her at that point to put her back in the crib, but it just starts the screaming fest all over again.

I am literally at a loss for what to do. I see all of these stay at home moms with clean houses who are able to get so much done and I have to remember that they have 2-3 hours child free during the day that I simply do not have. And as much as I love the cuddling that comes during her naps, it can be frustrating to have no time to myself during the day at all. I have yet to come up with any good solution to any of this. I just needed to vent about it. I know there are so many worse things mom's face, but right now this is a daily struggle for us that has caused so many tears for both me and her.

Being a mom is hard.

Grace's first (and only) modeling adventure!

Grace had her first (and probably only) modeling gig a couple of weeks ago! A local photographer, LTM Photography, was looking for girls to model her new line of hair bows and tutus and I jumped at the chance!

Grace was not in the best of moods that morning and really didn't feel like cooperating at first. Luckily, the shoot took place in a local wildlife park and a flock of turkeys walked close to our group and decided to hang out for a while. Grace loves animals and thought the turkey were about the coolest things ever. She said "tur ey" and "gobble gobble" and happily walked on the trail towards them. Grandma came to the shoot with us and spent a ton of time walking/running with Grace on the trail showing her the turkeys. Jennifer, the amazing photographer, took advantage of Grace's mood change and got some great shots of Grace in motion. Getting a toddler to pose is pretty impossible, so we just let Grace do her thing and got some gorgeous images. I am so happy to have them. Although I have to admit that I've cried multiple times because she looks so much older in these pictures. I warn you, there a lot. This isn't even all of them but I had to share because I love them all!

My favorite!

Running to see the turkeys! Another favorite

And here are a couple where you can really see what kind of mood she was in! These were both when we tried to get her to pose.
The famous toddler back arch that always come with a tantrum in our house
Jennifer was so patient with Grace and I can't recommend her enough! Plus the bows and tutus are absolutely adorable! Check out her photography page, LTM Photography, and her new bow and tutu boutique, Anna Matthews Boutique!

Pregnancy Update: 32 weeks

 BabyFetus Ticker

How far along? 32 weeks 2 days

Weight gain/loss: I'm up 19 lbs. On track to gain just about what I wanted which is a ton less than I gained with Grace!

Feeling:  Today, OK. My OB put me on Prevacid for my heartburn because it was making me very sick and impossible to get any sleep and it seems to be really helping. I am still dealing with sickness 2-3 days a week, but I am able to sleep at night without massive amounts of pain now.

Maternity clothes? Yes.

Sleep: Better with the new medicine. I'm still getting up for multiple trips to the bathroom, but I'm able to fall back to sleep a lot quicker than I was before.

Food cravings: Rice crispies. I have eaten through like 3 boxes in the past week!

Gender: Boy.

Movement? Yep. His feet live in my ribs and many times this week I have seen the outline of a circle (his butt) pushing out of the right side of my belly. The kicks are getting painful and I'm thinking he has bruised my ribs. He's obviously starting to run out of room.

What I miss? Being able to get down on the floor to play with Grace comfortably.

Best moment this week: Hearing that all of my test results came back great from the OB! I was anemic with Grace but my levels are perfect so far with Connor.

What I'm looking forward to: My family being in town this weekend!

Next Appointment: Next Thursday. A checkup and a routine high risk growth ultrasound.

Nuby Tickle Toes Lion Review!

Grace has tons of stuffed animals. So I honestly didn't know what to expect when we received the Nuby Tickle Toes Lion.

I was worried that it might just get put in the stuffed animal pile only to be pulled out on rare occasions. Let's just say I shouldn't have worried! From the moment I handed her the Lion, she loved it!

When it arrived, I seriously considering setting it aside as Grace's present to Connor when he arrives (he'll get her something too obviously!) but I don't think she would be too happy with me now if I took it away! The lion is very soft, and her favorite feature is that she can press on his foot and make him giggle. It only requires a gentle push so she is able to do it herself. Basically that means that I hear him giggling at random times during the day over and over again. Every time he giggles, she giggles. It's pretty darn cute I must say. He is not allowed in her crib for that specific reason! Nuby has an entire line of adorable Tickle Toes animals that I'm sure any child would love!

Hilariously funny, the Nûby™ Tickle Toes™ are soft, adorable and make the perfect playmate for your child. A gentle squeeze of the foot makes the character giggle and chuckle and is guaranteed to have you and your child do the same. Choose from the wide range of popular children’s characters or better still, collect them all!

The Tickle Toes line is available at these retailers:
  • K-mart
  • Wal-Mart
