Wordless Wednesday- Grace getting "chased"

Grace loves to be chased. If you stop chasing her, she comes to find you so that you can chase her again.

Grace's Nursery

When I started this blog back in 2010, I shared a few pictures of Grace's uncompleted nursery. I realized that I never actually showed the finished product! So without further adieu I present to you, the nursery:

When we moved in, this room was blue. A very boyish blue. So when we found out we were having a girl, I made Mike paint the room pink. We spent (well, I spent) hours comparing different shades of pink and finally decided on this pale pink that suits the room very well.

I knew I wanted something fun on the walls but I have absolutely no artistic ability so I turned to Etsy to find something to spruce it up. I found this adorable panda vinyl decal from designedDESIGNER on Etsy and I love it. It was easy to put up and it looks hand painted.

My mom and I picked out the fabric for the curtains and crib skirt and my grandmother sewed it all for us. I couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a bedding set that would barely be used.

The crib is the Graco Lauren convertible crib and we love it. It was easy to set up and it's such a pretty crib for the price. We got my Dutalier glider at an overstock warehouse for cheap and I am really happy that we did. I spend a ton of time in the glider and it's so comfortable!

My mom and I made the letters for her name using scrapbook paper and modge podge. Finally I added one of her newborn pictures to complete the look.

Must Read Monday- Imagination Library

Sometime in the last few months, I stopped doing my Must Read Monday posts and I decided this weekend that I should start them again!

Grace loves books, not that she has much of a choice in the matter with a librarian mom, but she often grabs a book and hands it to me. She certainly has her favorites and she loves discovering new books. Often when we get a new book, we read it 20 times a day for a week. While I am obviously a huge advocate of finding new books at the library, I found a way to get great new books that we get to keep!

If you want to get books to expand your child's library, check out Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

Here's a little info about the program:
"In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee, USA. Dolly's vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. By mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income."

The program has since expanded to communities in the US, Canada, and the UK and it is open to children between the ages of 0 to 5. Every single month the child gets a book sent to them that is appropriate for their age level. The program is not available in all communities. The program is not available in Kansas City, but grandparents can sign their grandchildren up and so my parents are able to get Grace books in Wichita. She loves getting her new books each month and the quality is really impressive. She has gotten Clifford, Corduroy and Spot board books as well as many others.  Here's a few that she's received:

The Hunger Games

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's going crazy waiting for the Hunger Games movie to come out?!?

I remember reading the 1st book shortly after it was released before it got really popular. I couldn't put it down! I recommended it to so many people and couldn't find anyone who didn't like it. I eagerly waited for the releases of the next two books in the trilogy and was sad when I had completed the last book. I didn't want the series to end! I actually didn't like the last book but I seem to be in the minority with that opinion.

If you have not read The Hunger Games trilogy, read it soon. Preferably before March 23rd. On March 23rd, the movie will come out and we will see if it as good as I am hoping. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment because movies are never as good as the books, but it looks like they are trying to stay as true to the book as possible. I will be interested to see how they actually portray the games and the deaths without being too gruesome.

How amazing is this trailer?

Do you think the movie will be as good as the book?

Grace and her daddy!

I love watching Grace and Mike together. They have such a special bond! Grace walks through the house every day, finds all of his pictures and waves at him saying dada. She waits for him to get home so that they can play together. For about half an hour after he gets home, she follows him around and constantly wants him to hold her. They play and she loves him to throw her in the air and catch her, she is such a daredevil!

Here are some of my favorite pictures of them:

13 Months

Grace turned 13 months on February 14th. The day came and went and I felt so weird not sitting her down to take monthly pictures. I debated about continuing my monthly blog posts and finally decided that I want to keep doing them. I love looking back at each month to see what she accomplished that month and the funny things that she did that she has already grown out of. I don't know how long I will continue the monthly posts. I certainly can't keep them up forever (right?) but for now I will continue.

I can't believe it's been a whole month since your birthday! You are looking more and more like a little girl each day! You hair has grown in and it is actually starting to curl at the ends.

You are walking all over the place! For some reason, you like to hold things in your mouth while you walk around. I think may be you got this from the dogs? I don't know.

You barely crawl anymore and you really like to climb on things.I can rarely get you to sit still long enough to take a decent picture. This is how most of our photo shoots end up:

You are so strong willed and your pediatrician called you a little spitfire. You scream when you don't get what you want or something is taken away from you. You do not like getting your diaper changed or getting dressed and I feel like I've been in a wrestling match every time I try. You are always getting into whatever you're not supposed to and are quite proud of yourself if you get to something before I can get to you. For example, you got to a Cheerios box and dumped it all over the place while I was on the phone and you were extremely proud of yourself.

You are talking up a storm. You can say dada, mama, dog, and I think I've heard you say ducky and woof. You also love to growl. If you are focusing on something, you make this loud growling noise. I need to make sure I get it on video!

You wave, point at things, give fives (when you want to) and give kisses. You love love love reading books and will sit and flip through books for a long time. You love playing peek a boo with us and you love to "sing" and dance along to music. When any kind of music comes on you bop along. You have pretty good rhythm for a 1 year old!

Your favorite person in the world is still daddy. Mommy is officially jealous. We can have the worst day and the moment he gets home, you run to him yelling dadadada. During the day you point and wave to him in pictures throughout the house and when I ask you who it is, you say dada. I think your favorite time of the day is daddy playtime.

You are a daredevil! You love when daddy throws you up in the air and holds you upside down. You love the swings at the park. I'm pretty sure we'll put you in gymnastics as soon as you get old enough.

You've figured out how toys work. It's amazing to watch your brain develop. You went from simply looking at toys to playing with them this month. You put things in and out of containers, put balls into tracks to see them roll around, and put the balls into your Ferris wheel toy.

You know how to turn almost all of your toys on and off. You love the tunnel we got your for your birthday. You take your toys into the tent at the end and you and your friend Lincoln love crawling through it after each other.
I wish I had a better pic, but this is you waiting impatiently for Lincoln to let you crawl back in!
You've also discovered your stuffed animals this month. You didn't ever really care for them before, but now you carry them around with you and cuddle up to them.

You're sleeping through the night most every night now. You don't like to nap in your crib, instead you prefer to nap on mommy. You love to eat, but you're getting pickier. If you could eat carbs, bananas, and chicken nuggets all day you would be perfectly content.

Your official stats at 13 months:
Weight: 21 lbs 4.8 oz~ 45th percentile
Height: 30 inches~ 65th percentile
Head: 18 1/2 inches~ 89th percentile

So basically you are tall and you have a huge head. I already knew that because while your 18 month clothes fit really well, it is a job trying to get your head to fit into the shirts. We will probably have to start getting 24 month clothes just so we can get you into the shirts!

This is such a fun age and you are learning so fast! I can't wait to see what the next month brings!

We got our first real snow of the season here in KC last night, so I decided to brave the cold and take Grace out to see what she thought. Here is what happened:

What are we doing mom?
Hey, what's this on the ground?
This might not be so bad

I want to go back inside! This is awful!
Side note: Getting a toddler bundled up to go outside is torturous! It takes forever!

Good Taste

I will admit that I have a bit of an addiction. A shoe addiction. Mostly pertaining to heels, I'm only 5'2 so I need them! Very very rarely do I actually get to wear the heels that I fall in love with, but I still love having them. Mike has made me go through several rounds of cleaning out my shoes that I don't wear often.

Lately I've noticed that someone else in our house has a shoe addiction. This is a daily happening in our house when I try to get dressed:

Hi mom! I love your wedding shoes!

Yay! I got the shoes!

Oh no, I better run before she tries to take them away!
Please excuse the mess in the background in several of these pics and how fuzzy they are, it's hard to get a picture of a running toddler! She'll carry any shoes she can find, but the moment I open the closet door, she always goes straight for my wedding shoes! They are her favorite and she loves to just sit and examine them. She obviously has great taste!

I think daddy's wallet might be in trouble when she's a teenager!
