New Year's Resolution

I don't normally make New Year's Resolutions. Every time I have, I have failed miserably. But this year, I decided to make one that I thought would be fairly easy to keep. My plan in 2012 was to stay healthy and avoid hospitals! I made it one day. Yep, you read that right. One day.

On January 2nd, Mike rushed me to the ER at 9 PM because it hurt to take a deep breath. I tried different positions, stretches, everything I could think of. I even took one of my nitro glycerine pills just in case it was my heart acting up, it did nothing. Yes, at that point I should have probably called an ambulance because of my history, but I was being stubborn. So after Grandma Barb got here to watch Grace (there was no way I was waking her up to take her to the ER with us) Mike drove me. They got me in very quickly! It's funny how fast people react when you tell them you had a heart attack 2 months ago! OK, may be it's only funny to me. But anyway, I had an EKG and chest x-ray within a few minutes. They did blood work which took way longer than it should have. After poking me once, my nurse came back in 5 minutes later saying that the lab called to tell him he needed to redraw because the cap on one of my vials came loose and spilled everywhere. So I got poked again. Strangely enough, getting blood drawn really doesn't bother anymore, I guess I'm just used to it. After another blood draw they gave me some wonderful pain medicine and I rested for an hour. The meds made me extremely dizzy but took the pain away so that I could breath again.

Shortly after, the doctor came in and gave us a good report. He had been concerend about blood clots, especially since I spent 3 hours in the car earlier that day driving home from Wichita, but my blood results and my chest x-ray came back clear. So he diagnosed me with pleurisy. Basically I have inflammation in my lungs caused by who knows what. I was discharged shortly after with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, and pain meds. I'm feeling much better now! But I am sad that I already broke my New Year's resolution. I would say I will make another one, but I doubt it. It's just asking for trouble!

Did you make any resolutions this year? Have you been good about keeping them in the past?
