Online Friends

When Mike and I started dating 4 years ago, I learned that he had made some of his friends from various online games he had played such as Everquest and World of Warcraft. That seemed odd to me, I couldn't understand how you could create a real friendship with someone you had met online.

When I got married. I excitedly signed up for to compare wedding day ideas with girls getting married in my area and during June 2008. I did find several blogs there that I still read to this day and I am friends with several girls from my month board on Facebook, but I have not met any of them in person, and it would be hard to consider them true friends. So my disbelief about online friendships continued.

And then I got pregnant. I excitedly signed up for (the Knot's baby site.) I didn't expect much, I mean, really, how well can hormonal pregnant women get along on a message board? But I know it would be a fun place to share the excitement of pregnancy. So I introduced myself to the January 2011 mommies and started posting. Amazingly enough, we all got along. There was no drama, and we started to really get to know each other. Shortly before having our babies, we decided to get personal and move things to Facebook so that we could continue our conversations. We created a private group that we still use to this day to share stories about our lives and our babies. We are extremely comfortable with each other and I feel like I've made many friends there.

Not only have I made friends purely online, some of these friends I have now met in real life! The local Kansas City girls from the January 2011 mommies decided to meet and we now get together anywhere from once a month to once a week : ) We have a great time getting together and it's so nice that all of our babies are close in age.

Peighton, Grace, and Brooke at the pool at one of our get togethers! There are more babies then this, but I don't want to post their pictures without permission!!
I now believe in online friendships! I know this post is pretty cheesy, but it can be hard to meet local mommy friends and the Bump was a great way to do it! I was so nervous to go meet everyone the first time, but we had so much in common that we never ran out of things to talk about.
