Favorite Books Monday- Size 12 Is Not Fat!

Although most of my must reads lately have been children's books, I do occasionally get the time to read actual adult books! I am normally not a mystery fan, but Meg Cabot is one of my favorite teen authors, so I decided to pick up one of her adult mystery series and give it a try. Hey, with a name like "Size 12 Is Not Fat," it's got to be good, right?

When Heather Wells lost her recording contract (saying that she would only sing her own songs might have been a bad idea), her famous boyfriend (walking in on him with another girl just ruins your day), and all of her money (mom stole it all and ran away with her manager), her days of stardom as a teen pop idol ended and her new life as an assistant dorm director in New York City began. She gained a few pounds, but as Heather constantly reminds herself, size 12 is the size of the average American woman. As she begins to settle into a routine, life in the dorm (I mean residence hall) turns upside down when a resident is found dead at the bottom of the elevator shaft. While everyone else dismisses the death as an accident, Heather decides to do some detective work and get to the bottom of it.

This book is hilarious. Cabot skillfully ties in references to modern pop culture such as boy bands and celebrity relationships and deals with many of the insecurities facing women. The book is easy and quick to read and overall a fun chick lit book. Cabot has written two more books in this series entitled "Size 14 Is Not Fat Either" and "Big Boned." Seriously, these are amazing titles and the books are equally as good!
